Jon explains that when Jesus declares himself the Light of the World, he has in mind two different functions. His light can either be a bathing light that comforts and informs, or it can be a blinding light that actually impairs whatever vision we have. But as Jesus is put on trial in absentia, we find that these two alternatives are user-driven – your reaction to Jesus determines what type of light you encounter. |
